What is TPU and does TPU belong to plastic?
In fact, TPU is a common material, short for thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer. It has strong high tension, high tension, strong toughness and aging resistance, and is a mature environmental protection material. TPU, as an elastomer, is a material between rubber and plastic, which is resistant to oil, water and mold. TPU products have outstanding bearing capacity, impact resistance and shock absorption.

TPU is a kind of plastic. The product is made by injection molding. This material can soften under a certain heat, but it can remain unchanged at normal temperature. It can be used in shoes for a number of stable supporting functions. From the feeling of hand feeling, the hardness of TPU in general will be relatively hard, and the elasticity of hand pinching is strong. Viewed from the outside, TPU can be made transparent. It is precisely because of this transparent feeling of TPU that it is now more popular with users. Moreover, there are still many high-grade TPU products with strong selectivity.
TPU can be applied to the lining of automobile tires, conveyor belts, mine sorting screens, printing cots, waterproof and paving materials, sealing rings, heels, etc. However, its high price, high product cost, and the narrow processing temperature range of TPU, which is difficult to process, have brought some influence to the popularization and application of TPU.
TPU has hardness between rubber and plastic, and can be processed into products with different purposes by extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, calendering, melt spinning and other methods. Due to the excellent performance of TPU and the diversity of processing methods, TPU has been booming in many fields, especially in China, where its development speed is faster than that of Europe, America and Japan. Therefore, in recent years, the Chinese market has become the focus of attention of TPU industry at home and abroad.
The main characteristics of TPU are:
Wide range of hardness: by changing the proportion of TPU reaction components, products with different hardness can be obtained, and with the increase of hardness, the products still maintain good elasticity and wear resistance.
High mechanical strength: TPU products have outstanding bearing capacity, impact resistance and shock absorption.
Outstanding cold resistance: TPU has a relatively low glass transition temperature and still maintains good elasticity, flexibility and other physical properties at minus 35 degrees.
Good processability: TPU can be processed by common processing methods of thermoplastic materials, such as injection molding, extrusion, calendering, etc. At the same time, TPU and some polymer materials can be processed together to obtain polymer alloy with complementary properties.
Oil resistance, water resistance, mold resistance, good recycling.

TPU, as an elastomer, is a material between rubber and plastic. Judging from its rigidity, the rigidity of TPU can be measured by elastic modulus. TPU has a fairly wide hardness range and has high elasticity throughout the hardness range. TPU is flexible in a wide temperature range (-40~120℃), without plasticizer. TPU has good resistance to oils (mineral oil, animal and vegetable oils and lubricants) and many solvents; TPU also has good weather resistance and excellent high energy ray resistance. The well-known wear resistance, tear resistance and buckling strength are excellent. High tensile strength, high elongation and low permanent deformation rate under long-term compression are all the remarkable advantages of TPU.
In addition, the formula and properties of TPU can be arranged and combined in many kinds. Its production is a system engineering with very high precision requirements. Any slight change in each raw material and process may have a great impact on the quality and performance of the product. This requires us to strictly detect the quality index of each raw material, strictly monitor each process parameter, pay close attention to the operation of each equipment, strictly control each process, and have a set of strict specifications from formulation design, raw material procurement, adjustment of feeding amount, calibration of metering system, control of temperature and other process parameters in each process such as underwater pelletizing and post-curing, to quality inspection of final products.
