TPE is a thermoplastic elastomer material, which has the characteristics of high strength, high resilience, injection molding, wide application range, environmental protection, non-toxicity and safety, and excellent colorability. Soft touch, weather resistance, fatigue resistance and temperature resistance, excellent processing performance, no need of vulcanization, can be recycled to reduce costs, can be molded by secondary injection molding, can be coated and bonded with PP, PE, PC, PS, ABS and other matrix materials, or can be molded separately.
As TPE is a variety of base materials, it is polymerized and has various physical properties, how can non-professional engineers identify TPE materials by simple methods as follows:
1, sticky:
Because the oil absorption capacity of SBS base material is not as good as SEBS, TPR of SBS base material is usually easier to feel sticky than TPE of SEBS base material. Of course, some SEBS with low molecular weight or its subsidiary cards are also easy to cause stickiness.
2. Odor:
Generally, the TPR of SBS base material is more tasteless than that of SEBS base material, and generally good TPE can be tasteless.
3. Gloss:
Usually the TPR of SBS base material is more glossy than the TPE of SEBS base material. Of course, SEBS can also be glossy, and the TPR of SBS base material can also be matt, but it is also matt. The TPE of SEBS base material feels more delicate and the TPR of SBS base material feels a little rough. In addition, the molecular weight distribution of SEBS base materials made in China is wider, and the TPE made from base materials with the same molecular weight grade is more matte and exquisite imported.
4. Combustion:
Generally, TPR combustion of SBS base material has more dense smoke than TPE of SEBS base material, because SEBS is SBS hydrotreated, with high hydrogen content, no dense smoke during combustion, and little taste.
5. Processing temperature:
Usually, the TPR of SBS base material can be processed thermoplastically at about 160°C, while the TPE of SEBS base material needs to be processed thermoplastically at about 180°C, which of course depends on their molecular weight. If the molecular weight is high, the processing temperature will be higher.
