TPU(Thermoplastic polyurethanes) is named thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer rubber. Mainly divided into polyester type and polyether type, it has wide hardness range (60HA-85HD), abrasion resistance, oil resistance, transparency and good elasticity, and is widely used in daily necessities, sporting goods, toys, decorative materials and other fields. Halogen-free flame retardant TPU can also replace soft PVC to meet environmental protection requirements in more and more fields.
Density: The density of polyether TPU is about 1.1, and the density of polyester is about 1.2. The specific density varies slightly from brand to brand.
Ether: high strength, hydrolysis resistance and high resilience, good low temperature performance. Price and flexibility. Polyether type has better relative elasticity and higher price.
Polyester type: Ester tensile property, flexural property, abrasion resistance, solvent resistance and higher temperature resistance.
By contrast:
Tensile strength polyester system > polyether system
Tear strength polyester system > polyether system
Wear resistant polyester system > polyether system
Chemical resistance polyester > polyether
Transparent polyester system > polyether system
Bacteriostatic polyester system < polyether system
Moisture vaporizable polyester system < polyether system
Low temperature impact polyester system < polyether system
The following points can be distinguished:
1. The price is relatively higher for polyether than polyester. This is for new materials, except for sub-brand or recycled materials.
2. Detailed parameters and applications can be found on the physical property table, which is generally well distinguished.
3. Specific gravity. The specific gravity of polyether TPU is higher than that of polyester. Polyether is generally about 1.2, polyester is generally about 1.1. Of course, different manufacturers and models also need to be discussed in detail.
4, application, polyester is oil resistant and high temperature resistant, polyether is oil resistant and low temperature resistant. It can also be seen from the application of the product whether the raw material is polyester or polyether.
