What is TPE? What are the advantages and disadvantages? I'm sure many friends would like to know that today's editor will give you a detailed explanation. Thermoplastic(TPE) is a soft rubber material that can be processed and molded on a universal thermoplastic molding machine. TPE appearance is transparent, color, black, transparent round particles. TPE materials can be processed by injection, extrusion, blowing, salivation, pouring and other processes.
TPE refers to thermoplastic elastomers. As the name implies, high temperature injection molding, room temperature is a rubber elastic material. TPE is generally called TPE material in China and is basically a styrene thermoplastic elastomer. Styrene TPE(TPS) is a block copolymer of butadiene or isoprene with styrene, and its performance is similar to that of SBR rubber. TPE has a wide variety of thermoplastic elastomers, including TPS, TPU, TPV, TPEE, and TPO. The most common of these is TPS elastomers. TPS elastomer is an elastomer material composed of SEBS and SBS rubber or styrene thermoplastic elastomer TPE. Due to the oil absorption of SEBS and SBS and its good compatibility with PP and HIPS, TPE elastomers can mix and modify various hardness and physical properties of TPS elastomers.
Some friends in the industry will say that TPE is also TPR. They confuse TPE and TPR. TPE is a mixed modified material based on SEBS. The modified material based on SBS is called TPR. In practical engineering, the type of TPE elastomer and the material TPE material should be determined according to the user's actual template or material requirements.
Advantages of TPE materials:
1) Recycling and energy conservation are ideal materials for replacing rubber and silicone.
2 · Stable performance, good high temperature(temperature range -40 ≤ 100 °C), aging resistance, chemical resistance and solvent resistance. Excellent machining performance
Environmental protection, non-toxic, safety, good coloring, tactile softness. TPE materials do not introduce heavy metals and toxic phthalate plasticizers during production, in line with environmental protection tests by RoHS, Reach, EN71, PAHS, and FDA.
3. Energy conservation. Most thermoplastic elastomers do not need to cure or cure for a short time, and their production efficiency is greatly improved. The molding period is short, the cost is reduced, and the recycling can be used.
4 、 High elasticity of rubber and injection molding characteristics.
5 · Can be secondary injection molding, coating, bonding with PP, PE, 475, PC, PS, ABS, PA and other matrix materials, but also can be formed separately.
Disadvantages of TPE materials:
The biggest problem with SBS and SIS is the poor heat resistance, and the operating temperature must not exceed 80 °C. At the same time, its strength, weather resistance, oil resistance, wear resistance, etc. can not be compared with rubber.
Based on environmental protection factors, environmentally friendly TPE materials have been widely used in toys, automotive products, medical supplies, daily necessities and other industries, rather than environmentally friendly and toxic PVC materials. With the development of science and technology, thermoplastic elastomer materials will be widely used. Due to the advantages of rubber and plastics, TPE has opened up new applications for the rubber industry.
