In many cases, thermoplastic elastomer TPE|TPR needs color matching during molding. As for color matching, it seems simple, but in fact there is a lot of knowledge in it. According to my years of experience in TPE materials and processing, I would like to share some dry goods knowledge with readers. 1 Color Masterbatch and Carrier Selection Principle: The carrier of color master should have good compatibility with TPE main components such as rubber and reinforced plastic. For TPE of SEBS substrate with higher hardness, PP is selected as carrier resin. For those with lower hardness, PE or EVA is selected as the carrier resin. For TPE(TPR) of SBS substrate, if the hardness is higher, PS is selected as the carrier resin, and if the hardness is lower, PE or EVA is selected as the carrier resin. It should be pointed out that TPE and TPR with particularly soft hardness may not be suitable for color matching with color masterbatch. 2. Advantages of color matching with color master: A. less pollution in color matching. Toner color matching is easy to produce dust pollution, and the use of color masterbatch can eliminate such problems. B color matching with toner is easy to mix colors, and the color matching process is easy to agglomerate, which is not conducive to dispersion. This deficiency can be avoided by using color masterbatch. 3. The need to match colors with toner As mentioned above, for some TPE and TPR materials with particularly low hardness, toner should be used instead of color matching with color master. Because of this type of TPE,TPR processing temperature is usually low, color matching with color masterbatch may result in poor plasticization and dispersion performance of color masterbatch, which is not conducive to color matching. However, toner has the agglomeration and dispersion problems mentioned above. It is suggested to add some diffusion aids when matching colors. There are mainly two types of plastic toner, inorganic and organic, with their respective advantages and disadvantages as follows: Inorganic toner: weatherproof, high temperature resistance, good shading, low unit price, but generally the chroma is not high and it is not easy to disperse. Organic toner: weather resistance, high temperature resistance, shading will be almost the same, but dispersion will be good, dosage is relatively small, chroma will be higher. 4. Replacement of TPE during production and processing and matching of TPR toner Sometimes, users may change or find more than two suppliers to supply. At this time, there will be such a problem that one supplier's color master (toner) and the corresponding ratio will be used to match another supplier's TPR color matching. Whether some will find that the two materials match colors, there will be color difference, different colors or shades. In this case, it cannot be simply attributed to the unqualified material quality of the following suppliers. Because each TPR supplier's TPE,TPR material formula is different, this will lead to the production of primary color materials, different suppliers, there is already color difference, in this way, with the same color mother and ratio to match colors, there will certainly be color difference of products. The more pertinent method is to adjust the addition ratio of toner appropriately or replace toner of different colors to adapt to TPR materials of different suppliers. As for communicating with customers to make toner adjustments, as qualified TPE business personnel should be able to do this.
