In the rubber and plastic industry, TPE materials and PVC materials are two commonly used materials. However, because these two kinds of materials are similar in performance, many production-oriented processing factories are inevitably entangled in material selection, and do not know which material is the right choice. So which is better, TPE or PVC? TPE material is a kind of elastomer with rubber elasticity at normal temperature and plasticization molding at high temperature. TPE material is a new polymer material between rubber and resin, which can not only replace part of rubber, but also modify plastics. Thermoplastic elastomer has dual properties of rubber and plastic and broad characteristics, which makes it widely used in the rubber industry to manufacture rubber shoes, adhesive tapes and other daily-use products and various industrial supplies such as rubber hose, adhesive tape, rubber strip, rubber plate, rubber parts and adhesives. picture PVC material is the initiator of vinyl chloride monomer in peroxide, azo compound and so on; Or a polymer polymerized according to the mechanism of free radical polymerization under the action of light and heat. It is widely used in building materials, industrial products, daily necessities, floor leather, floor tiles, artificial leather, pipes, wires and cables, packaging films, bottles, foaming materials, sealing materials, fibers and so on. Differences between TPE materials and PVC materials: 1. structural differences TPE materials are mainly hydrocarbons, while PVC materials are chlorine-containing hydrocarbons. 2. Difference in specific gravity The specific gravity of most TPE materials is 0.84-1.2, which is light. With the same mass (kg), more products can be produced, while the specific gravity of PVC materials is generally 1.3-1.4. 3. Hardness difference TPE materials have a wide range of hardness, ranging from 0a to 70d, while PVC materials take soft rubber materials as an example, generally ranging from 50a to 90a. 4. Differences in mechanical properties TPE materials and PVC materials have high mechanical strength, but TPE materials have excellent tensile properties, such as tensile strength up to ten megapascals and elongation at break up to ten times. 5. Difference in temperature resistance TPE materials can withstand temperatures of over 70℃ for a long time, with the highest service temperature of 149℃, decomposition rate of over 270℃ in oxygen environment, good shape at low temperature of -60℃, and high temperature resistance. On the other hand, PVC materials are resistant to -15℃-60℃, and have poor light and heat stability. Under the environment above 100℃ or light environment, the softening point of PVC materials can be lowered to 80℃, and the materials can be decomposed at 130℃, and hydrogen chloride can precipitate irritating gases. 6. Differences in chemical resistance TPE material has corrosion resistance, ozone resistance and ozone aging (38℃) for 100 hours, and its performance is reduced by less than 10%. It is resistant to common chemicals (water, acid, alkali and alcohol solvents) and can be soaked in solvent or oil for a short time. However, PVC materials have high chemical resistance, corrosion resistance but not ozone resistance. It will corrode under strong acids such as concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid, and cannot contact with aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbon substances. 7. Combustion difference TPE materials are halogen-free, low smoke and non-toxic when burned, and some generic materials release aromatic odor when burned. However, PVC materials release a lot of smoke and irritating gases.
