The thermoplastic elastomer TPE transparent material(usually based on SEBS, SBS modifications) is a transparent polymer material composed of matrix rubber resin mixed with operating oil and some proportion of plastic particles(without adding mineral fillers). The rubber substrates of TPE transparent materials include SEBS and SBS. Based on the modified elastomers of SEBS substrates, the production plants are called TPE, and the modified elastomers based on SBS substrates are generally called TPR. However, in the downstream user's customary name, there is no distinction between SEBS and SBS substrates. Some users are commonly known as TPR, There are also some users who are commonly known as TPE, and there may be some differences in the name of the manufacturer. TPE properties and parameters of transparent materials
Hardness: SEBS substrate TPE0 ~ 70A(even much softer than 0A, usually measured with the Shaw Hardenometer C meter); SBS base TPR10 ~ 90A;
Specific gravity: 0.82 ~ 0.93; The transparent materials of the two substrates are basically the higher the hardness, the higher the specific gravity;
Stretching elongation: 300 to 1500 %. The lower the general hardness, the higher the elongation; In the same hardness and comparable mixing system, the elongation of transparent TPE is higher than that of transparent TPR.
Water shrinkage: 1.6 ~ 2 %; The higher the general hardness, the greater the shrinkage.
Appearance sheen: TPE transparent particles appear to be relatively dumb; The surface of TPR transparent particles is very bright.
Transparency: TPE | TPR is less transparent than organic glass and so on. It is good to reach 80 %. The transparency of TPE | TPR transparent materials is related to the following factors:
Hardness: The higher the general hardness, the less transparent the material. The TPE transparent material of the SEBS substrate is generally translucent when the hardness exceeds 75A. The TPR of the SBS substrate is generally similar, but transparent TPR materials with a hardness below 90A can be obtained.
Color: TPE transparent, TPE translucent, TPE high transparency.
Other characteristics
1. Temperature resistance, high temperature resistance, transparent TPE, 90 ~ 100 °C, transparent TPR, 70 ~ 80 °C; In terms of low temperature resistance, transparent TPE and TPR all show excellent low temperature resistance and can withstand low temperature -50 °C.
2. Aging resistant SEBS does not contain unsaturated C-C double bonds compared to SBS, which determines that transparent TPE has better aging resistance and UV resistance than transparent TPR. Without adding UV agents, the UV resistance index of the transparent TPE material can reach level 4.

III. TPE transparent material forming method
As a transparent polymer material with rubber elastic properties, transparent TPE and TPR particles are also thermoplastic materials. Most plastic processing methods can be used for molding, such as injection molding, extrusion, blowing molding, and salivation molding.
Forming temperature reference: under the premise of the same rubber substrate, the molecular weight of the rubber substrate is high, and the forming temperature of the material is relatively high; The higher the hardness, the higher the forming temperature of the material; Different substrates, TPE based on SEBS substrates is higher than TPR based on SBS substrates, and the forming temperature is higher; Transparency TPE based on SEBS substrate, forming temperature(injection 130 ~ 230 °C; Extrusion 120 ~ 200 °C); Transparent TPR based on SBS substrate, forming temperature(injection molding 150 ~ 190 °C; Extrude 140 ~ 170 °C).
IV. Application of TPE transparent materials
It is widely used in toys, daily consumer goods, sports equipment, hardware tools, electronic appliances and other industries. It is generally applied to soft rubber products with high transparency requirements, high color requirements, and high scratch resistance requirements.
