As we all know, TPE raw materials have a wide range of applications, involving fields: automobiles, sports equipment, tool handles, kitchen supplies, baby toys, food contact with TPE, so today we will focus on whether TPE raw materials can meet those requirements when replacing silica gel materials, and whether TPE replacement silica gel can be completely replaced. Let's look at the following in my footsteps … Before, silica gel was widely used in intelligent wear, medical supplies, food tableware, daily products and crafts industries, but no matter how good the materials are, they cannot stand human criticism and pursuit of perfection. The molding silica gel has a long vulcanization processing cycle, and the materials are difficult to recycle after the silica gel is vulcanized into products. It is precisely because of these deficiencies that the application and expansion of silica gel are limited, and TPE elastomer materials just perfect these shortcomings of silica gel.
Advantages of TPE elastomer material replacing silica gel: thermoplastic elastomer TPE (modified by blending based on SEBS) has soft hardness and elasticity similar to silica gel, and its hand feel and environmental protection performance can be comparable to silica gel. More importantly, TPE elastomer material can be directly and rapidly injected or extruded to shorten the processing cycle of the material from minute grade of vulcanized silica gel to second. In addition, TPE materials can be 100% recycled, and the material cost is equivalent to or slightly cheaper than silica gel. TPE materials conform to the EU environmental protection standards, pass FDA food-grade certification, and are safe and nontoxic. Therefore, in recent years, TPE elastomer materials have been widely used in food, tableware, daily products, adult products, smart wearing electronic products, medical products and other industries instead of silica gel.
Which applications can food grade TPE materials replace silica gel?
Products with good handfeel: such as handles and grips. You can try to replace it with TPE, of course, this requires TPE suppliers to provide special TPE formula solutions.
Products of electronic accessories: mobile phone case, smart wrist strap, smart watch strap, etc. If TPE is used to replace them, TPE can be molded faster than silica gel, with higher yield and lower cost.
Adult products: TPE has basically received market approval for replacing silica gel in adult sex products industry. Because the industry mainly considers the soft touch of materials. However, TPE is superior to silica gel in soft touch, and its hardness and physical properties are easy to adjust, which can better meet different requirements of customers. TPE for adult products needs to start from the formula to overcome the defects of material cracks, surface fogging, yellowing and stickiness.
Food cutlery: food cutlery such as ice cubes, meal boxes, pacifiers, kitchen utensils handles, etc. are mainly made of silica gel. For such products with high environmental protection requirements, if the customer wants to do FDA2600 or LFGB food grade testing, the TPE hardness should reach above 70A, otherwise silica gel is used. If the customer does not have such strict requirements for food testing, such as distilled water and 50% alcohol testing, TPE can be used instead.
