For thermoplastic elastomer TPE polymer materials, specific gravity does not seem to be a core physical index. However, if the specific gravity is high or very low, the material cost can be appropriately reduced. In addition, for some products that require submerged or floating water (such as floating cables), controlling the specific gravity is crucial. TPE is a general term for a variety of thermoplastic elastomers, and TPE can be modified and customized. The proportion of TPE materials in different varieties and compounding systems is different. This paper sorts out the proportion of TPE as the main thermoplastic elastomer, hoping to be helpful to readers.
Specific gravity of materials
SEBS (polymer) 0.9-0.91
SBS (dry glue) 0.94
SBS (oil glue) 0.91-0.92
TPE(S) SBS+PS+ calcium carbonate+oil+other 0.93~1.3
TPE(S) SEBS+PP+ CaCO3+Oil+Other 0.83~2.0
TPV/TPO(PP+EPDM/ polyolefin elastomer/crosslinking agent+calcium carbonate) 0.91-1.20
TPU(TPU+ calcium carbonate+others) 1.06-1.25
TPEE 1.04~1.08
ETPES/ETPU (foamed tpe, tpu) 0.5-0.9
Other special compounding systems TPE elastomer 0.95-1.3
Generally speaking, the specific gravity of TPE is in the range of 0.5~2.0. Foamed TPE is an extremely low specific gravity material, which is generally used for foamed soles (such as popcorn soles that have recently become popular), thermal insulation materials, foamed sealing strips, bottle stoppers, etc. Extremely high specific gravity TPE(TPR), such as eraser material, etc.
